Cause and Effect Name: Date: Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People’s Ears by Verna Aardema

Mosquito lied. Iguana stuck sticks in his ears so couldn’t hear Mosquito. Iguana could not hear Python speak to him. Python was angry that Iguana did not speak to him and hid in a hole. Python scared Rabbit, who ran for her life. Crow saw Rabbit running and spread the alarm of danger.

The animals were afraid. Monkey saw Crow and wanted to help alert other animals, so he screeched and ran, breaking a dead limb. The limb fell on an owl’s nest. Mother Owl grieved for her Owlet. There was no day. Night lasted too long. The animals were afraid. Mother Owl was too sad to wake up the sun.
