Day one of a Disaster

Day one After a Disaster What is my community most vulnerable to? Who should my first set of phone calls be? Do I have a plan and does my staff and partners know the plan?

Disaster 101 Phases of disaster: relief, recovery, mitigation, preparedness. There are several versions and arguments around this, so don’t get lost on the technicalities! Federal funding is never enough. It comes in several streams – individual assistance, public assistance, CBDG programs, and more. Relationships matter before, during, and after more than you will ever know! Think about who you want to be in your communities and to your partners in the aftermath of a disaster well before you have to respond.

Community Resources from CDP Disaster Playbook (www.disasterplaybook.org): Why? Toolkits and resources to help you form a plan and for when you don’t have a plan and are dealing with a disaster or crisis. Midwest Early Recovery Fund and Louisiana Disaster Recovery Alliance: Why? Partners, resources, funding opportunities Educate and inform Consulting services Funds
