The Sahara

The Sahara is the largest desert in the world outside of the poles Life in the Sahara is generally only possible at an oasis There is a large amount of water deep underground in the Sahara Oasis: an area in a desert where water comes to the surface and allows plants and animals to survive Travel in the Sahara is extremely difficult There are very few safe routes, most wind from oases to oases

Read “Desertification of the Sahel” on pages 424-425 and answer the following questions What is the Sahel? What is desertification? What is causing desertification? What are the consequences of desertification?
