More than enough students… Forecast until 2045

 Unemployment rate for academics is ~ 2% …and demand Forecast until 2045  Unemployment rate for academics is ~ 2%

Why have a strategy? (International) Recognition and Reputation usually internationally ranked, large research universities known as innovative/ first-movers/ for excellence in teaching & research oftentimes compete internationally for the best students and researchers (Local) Integration usually small universities of applied sciences A partner of (mid-sized) companies in the region in teaching and research Strive for their graduates to bring innovation into the economy Forster (established) goals (solve existing challenges) usually not a strategy for a whole university Use digital technology to deal with a diverse student body, to foster international education, offer flexible learning environments for working students, lower drop-out rates…

Common challenges in strategy development Develop organizational formats to discuss and develop a strategy for the whole organization (committee, working group…) Find and communicate a common understanding of what “digital teaching and learning” is Mental Image Governance Motivation Communciation Communicate ideas, goals, priorities and best practices within the university Create motivation and set incentives
