The Beginning! It all starts during the war between the British and the Japanese. Nick lives with his mother in London. In the middle of the night London was bombed. After the bombing is over Nicks mom decides to send him to Burma to live with his dad. When he gets there Nick gets attacked by a bull named Hannibal. He does not tell anybody about even though it broke his ribs. It is a tradition that on Christmas morning you ride on an elephants back all day. Nick and his father ride with Mya, Indaw, and their father Nang. While they stop to rest in the jungle they are attacked by the Japanese. They take Nicks father prisoner and Nick works as a slave. The soldiers kill Nang and makes Indaw go to a prisoner camp with Nicks father. Mya stays as a slave with Nick. Will they escape?
