Common Construction Site Accidents

Construction workers have a very dangerous job Construction workers have a very dangerous job. Statistics show that 4 out of 100 construction workers receive non-fatal injuries on the job each year.

Here are some of the most common construction site accidents.

Falls from Heights or Scaffoldings According to the Bureau of Labour Statistics, falls from heights or scaffolding accidents account for 34% of all construction site accidents.

Slips and Falls From stray tools and materials to uneven ground or holes, there are numerous hazards on a construction site that can lead to dangerous slips, trips and falls.

Electrocutions Construction sites often have exposed wiring, power lines and unfinished electrical systems. Coming in contact with any of these can lead to shock or electrocution.

Getting Caught in Between Objects or Materials Construction sites contain machinery, tools and materials. Workers can become stuck in between immovable objects, machinery or fallen debris.

Overexertion Long hours of work in extremely hot or humid conditions can cause workers to overexert themselves and fall victim to heat stroke.

Fires and Explosions Unfinished piping, leaking gas and incomplete electrical systems can lead to fires and explosions.

Machinery Accidents Construction workers use heavy machinery in their work. Any error in the machinery’s functioning can lead to catastrophic accidents.

Trench Collapses If a trench collapses while a worker is inside, it could result in life-threatening injuries. Workers can be hit by tools, machinery or materials, or get buried in the surrounding dirt.
