Presentation transcript:

Acknowledge Traditional Owners Gadigal people of the Eora nation Project region The project focused on the East Kimberley and Western Northern Territory and includes some of the most remote Aboriginal communities in Australia.

Target audience Our primary audience are front line legal and community workers, The Blurred Borders resources help these workers to provide better legal assistance and information to local Aboriginal people Because of the importance of ‘getting it right’ we have also focus tested extensively with local Aboriginal people

Who is involved? Commonwealth funded and highly collaborative All community legal sector agencies in the region participated Lots of other front line agencies – courts, police, health Also a high level of buy in from remote Aboriginal communities

What’s in the kit #1 Story cards – they come in two sizes a larger set for CLE work and a smaller set about playing card size for one on one service delivery A range of posters (ask for an interpreter, Call a lawyer, Right to silence, Go to court, Plan for Safety etc)

l BUILD LISTEN & LEARN User Centred Design FOCUS TEST & MEASURE Continuous evaluation model – two years of solid user testing We are actively engaging with and listening to our stakeholders and implementing suggestions to improve the resources We are documenting what we find do every step of the way – project diaries

Using the Resources with groups All of the resources are great for delivering community legal education The board game is very popular with young people – we have been using it in youth detention centres and schools very effectively The story cards also work well for group CLE activities. There are lots of ready made stories in the Resource Manual

It’s got a life of its own People are constantly coming back with incredibly clever new ways to use the resources – the board game came out of Dondale detention centre, in court use, lots of ideas for the wallet cards We’ve been asked to create fridge magnets for the wallet cards and car magnets so you can do CLE on the bonnet in remote communities People want to use these resources with wider client groups People are telling us to make all sorts of other story card packs - consumer protection, tenancy, traffic matters, elder abuse
