Youth Employment and Social Integration UN Expert Group Meeting on “Policies to Advance Social Integration”, NY, Nov. 2009

Who we are YEN is a partnership of UN, ILO and World Bank As a network we focus on: Policy advice on youth employment Innovative pilot programs Knowledge sharing Capacity building for youth organizations

The Youth Employment Challenge 25% of the global working-age population are youth On average youth unemployment is three times higher than adult unemployment rates One in five working youth makes less than US$ 1

Knowledge Gaps A framework for monitoring and evaluating youth employment policies is missing Lack of evidence on the impact and cost/benefit ratios of youth employment programs

Key recommendations At the policy level, a bench marking of youth employment policies is needed At the program level, more rigorous impact assessments are needed
