“We may stay here till we die “We may stay here till we die.” With that word the heat began to increase till it became a threatening weight and the lagoon attacked them with a blinding effulgence. (1.125)
Foreshadowing – though Piggy means that they will be there for along time, until they die, one can not help but echo these words when Piggy is killed. Piggy and Ralph don’t know if anybody else is on the island at this point “We may stay here till we die.” With that word the heat began to increase till it became a threatening weight and the lagoon attacked them with a blinding effulgence. (1.125) Pathetic fallacy – the weather appears hotter – all of a sudden the boys feel the “weight” of the heat. The “weight” is a metaphor used to describe the pressure, fear and responsibility that is now cast upon the boys. The lagoon is “highlighted” here – it is so bright that rays of light seem to be shining out of it. This could symbolise the lagoon’s importance as a place of safety – they boys bathe there, cleansing themselves. It is also a place of beauty and the meetings take place next to it.

Quote for LOTF “We may stay here till we die.”
Quote for LOTF “We may stay here till we die.” It also shows Piggy to be worried about the future and how much he really wants to leave already . When Piggy uses the word “die” it brings the element of real fear that they think they will only leave when they die. “We may stay here till we die.” Piggy and Ralph didn’t know if anyone else or anything else was on the island and he was already. Also at this point both Piggy and Ralph didn’t know that where they were was an Island and this shows when Piggy says “here”. It shows that piggy isn't very optimistic about getting off this island .
Quote of Blood Brothers The idea of the bogey man reminds the reader that they are still just boys "There's no such thing as a bogey man. It's a-a superstition" The use of the double “a-a” could show a sign of fright or they are trying to think of another explanation. By saying superstition they are trying to comfort others.
