Types of Allusions In Fahrenheit 451
Casual Reference Recalls a reference, but only in a general sense, and, therefore is relatively unimportant (Irwin). (Like an inside joke)
Example Walking into a room of people and greeting the first person you see with, “How YOU doin’?”
Single Reference Recalls a specific reference Provides an understanding that gives the reader an additional perspective to the main text (Dufresne)
Example “I was actually born on Krypton and sent here by my father, Jorel, to save the planet Earth.” - Senator Barack Obama
