What’s Happening in Our Class… MRS. GUTIERREZ’S 6TH GRADE PRE-AP NEWSLETTER Member of the Gutierrez 6th Grade Pre-AP Class Where Knowledge is Power, Everyone Equal & Everyone Matters! What’s Happening in Our Class… Est. 2018 August 2018 Price: Knowledge Reading: As we continue with the 1st 9 weeks of the school year we will be focusing on fiction, distinguishing theme from main idea and summarizing elements of Plot. The novel that we will be reading in class is “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton. I have already ordered the novel so that we all have the same version. Therefore, I am asking each child to bring in $8.00 by Monday or asap. Math: As I mentioned at our Meet the Teacher night, in Math your child will be learning a lot of new concepts. These next couple of weeks we will be learning how to classify whole numbers, integers, and rational numbers with visuals. The students will also be working with absolute value, locating them on a number line, and moving onto adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing integers. This concept may be a little challenging for some because it is different but we will practice, practice and practice.  Science: For the next 3 weeks the focus for science will be the scientific process. The students will be required to pick out a science fair project they would like to work on. I will be handing out a packet that will help the students stay organize as they work on their project.
