Patient Care Visit Emergency Childbirth: New: A major re-write of this section was completed with input from Marah Gotcsik, MD (ANMC/SCF Pediatric Hospitalist & Pediatric Field Clinic – Maniilaq Health Center), Neil Murphy, MD (SCF OB/GYN), Margaret Baldwin (SCF/RASU – Certified Nurse Midwife), Jenny Brown (TCC CHAP Instructor) ANTHC eCHAM Staff and ANTHC CHAP Instructors. New: Section: Preparing for Baby to Be Born; Initial Care of all Newborns; Plan Childbirth 10: Essential Care for All Newborns; Procedure: Clamping and Cutting the Umbilical Cord (created from portions of old instructions); Procedure: Bulb Syringe (created from portions of old instructions); and Procedure: Monitoring Newborn Blood Sugar. Updates: Moving and renumbering plans to provide more logical flow-Labor through Delivery; Baby Box Equipment and Supplies; Equipment for Newborn Care to include resuscitation equipment; Instructions for suctioning baby’s mouth and nose; Increased time between birth and clamping/cutting the cord for Newborns Crying and Breathing Well Newborn Resuscitation; and Procedure: Giving Sugar to a Newborn with Low Blood Sugar has more thorough instructions including adoption of glucose gel.
