MINIMUM requirements.  Colleges often require or expect more than this: 4 English credits 4 Math credits     (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and Senior-Year Math) 3 Science credits         (Biology & Chemistry/Physics & 3rd Science Choice) 3 Social Studies Credits     (U.S. History, World History, U.S. Government/Economics) .5 Physical Education & .5 Health 2 credits of World Language 1 credit of Visual/Performing/Applied Art

TESTING The State of Michigan now uses the SAT during the school year.  Students can still take the ACT. Recommendation-Take the SAT and ACT.   If student is free & reduced lunch they qualify for a fee waiver  To register and pay visit www.collegeboard.com and www.act.org. Study for the SAT at www.khanacademy.org.  All Juniors established login and password last November. Study for the ACT at www.act.org or contact a local study skills center

College Applications Many schools release their application on August 1st APPLY EARLY | No need to wait and apply in September Colleges have their own applications on their site, but some must be done through CommonApp or CoalitionApp Teachers and students are both very busy at the start of the school year Students are advised to ask for a letter of recommendation now & let the teacher know they'll be asking to have it uploaded in August

Letter of Recommendation Needed for colleges | internships | shadowing | scholarships There is NO REASON not to have a letter of recommendation at this time. Teachers are busy, it's a good idea to reach out now and have one ready to go. Letters: make a formal request, agree on a deadline, submit a formal letter of appreciation Templates are available 

FAFSA FAFSA can cover: tuition & fees, room & board, books & supplies, transportation & personal expenses at Community College|University|Trade School FAFSA opens Oct 1, 2018  Student & parent will have to create an FSA ID (https://fsaid.ed.gov/npas/index.htm) If parent has created one but can't remember login please select forgot password and or forgot username. Parent will not be able to create a new one if they already made one as your SS# is tied to an account already. If you have not created an FSA ID - please do so.  The parent FSA ID is used as the parent signature in student's FAFSA (https://fafsa.ed.gov/FAFSA/app/fafsa?locale=en_US)

The CapCAN Launch Your Dream Conference features a College and Career Fair, workshops on financial aid, writing college essays, and a student panel on the transition to college.
