Causes of the Great Depression

1928 Election Republican Candidate Hoover- easily wins (Hoover- takes credit for prosperity of the 1920’s) “ I have no fears for the future of our country, it’s bright with hope” -Hoover

Many struggle Loss of homes and jobs Shanty towns called Hooverville's emerge Hobos- wanderers often hitchhikers- looking for food and employment

The Dust Bowl- Great Plains Causes: Farmers plows uprooted natural grasses that held soils moisture Crop prices drop- famers are not farming all of their land Drought occurs No crops or grass to hold the moisture from the rainfall- soil turns to dust Winds caused enormous dust storms
