Vocabulary and Field Lines Magnetism Vocabulary and Field Lines

Vocabulary: Like Poles Repel Magnet – any material that exerts a magnetic force Magnetism – the attraction or repulsion of magnetic materials 3. Magnetic Pole – all magnets have 2 poles (North & South) The magnetic effect of a magnet is strongest at the poles Unlike or Opposite Poles Attract Like Poles Repel

4. Magnetic Force – the force of the attraction or repulsion that is produced when magnetic poles interact 5. Magnetic Field – the area of magnetic force around a magnet 6. Magnetic Field Lines – lines that map out the invisible magnetic field around a magnet

Magnetic Field Lines spread out from one pole, curve around the magnet, and return to the other pole. North  South

Magnetic Field Lines: Attraction

Magnetic Field Lines: Repulsion
