Important Themes in 1 John Lesson 11 for the 12th of September, 2009

THE GODHEAD THE CHURCH TRUTH CHRISTIAN BEHAVIOUR SALVATION

The Godhead Who is God? Father Holy Spirit Son (1 John, 2: 16)

The Godhead Which is his nature? God is love (1 John, 4: 8)

The Godhead What does He do for us? He forgives us and He wash all unrighteousness away (1 John, 1: 9) He is our Advocate and the propitiation for our sins (1 John, 2: 1-2) He teaches to us (1 John, 2: 27) He undoes the work of the devil (1 John, 3: 8) He gives us eternal life (1 John, 5: 11) He hears us when we ask anything (1 John, 5: 14)

THE CHURCH Who make it up? The sons of God who got off the world (1 John, 3: 1) Brothers in faith who have different levels of spiritual knowledge (1 John, 2: 13-14) THE CHURCH

THE CHURCH What do we find in it? Protection against antichrists (1 John, 2: 12, 18) Brotherly love (1 John, 2: 9-11) THE CHURCH

SALVATION “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins” (1 John, 4: 10) “The blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin” (1 John, 1: 7)

CHRISTIAN BEHAVIOUR Walking in the light, having fellowship with one another (1 John, 1: 7) No sinning, no breaking the law (1 John, 2: 1; 3: 4) No loving the world (1 John, 2: 15) Doing justice (1 John, 3: 7) No hating the brother (1 John, 3: 15) Having charity towards the brethren (1 John, 3: 17) Loving one another (1 John, 4: 7) Showing love with acts (1 John, 3: 18) Loving God and keeping His commandments (1 John, 5: 2-3)

TRUTH He who does not keep the Commandments is not the truth (1 John, 2: 4) No lie comes from the truth (1 John, 2: 21) We are of truth if we love with actions and in truth (1 John, 3: 18-19)

JESUS IS THE TRUTH TRUTH (John, 14: 6) “We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true--even in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life” (1 John, 5: 20)
