Harper Lee- biography Early Life Nelle Harper Lee was born on April 28, 1926, in Monroeville, Alabama. Lee is best known for writing the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel To Kill a Mockingbird (1960). The youngest of four children, she grew up in a small town. Her father was a lawyer, as for her mother suffered from mental(გონებრივი) illness, One of her closest childhood friends was  Truman Capote.In high school, Lee developed an interest in English literature. After graduating in 1944, she went to the all-female(ქალთა) Huntingdon College in Montgomery. Lee was different from the other students—she did not care about fashion, makeup or dating(პაემანი). Instead, she was interested in her studies and writing. Lee was a member of the literary society.(საზოგადოება) Junior year(ახალგაზრდობის წლები) After college she went to Alabama university's law(სამართლი) school at Tuscaloosa. Lee was known for being an individualist. Lee wrote for the school's newspaper and its humor magazine, the Rammer Jammer, and eventually(საბოლოოდ) she become its editor. After her first year in the program, she guessed(მიხვდა) that the law—was not her true calling(მოწოდება). She went to Oxford University in England that summer as an exchange student(გაცვლითი სტუდენტი).But when she returned back to law school in Autumn, Lee dropped out( მიატოვა) after the first semester. She soon moved north to follow her dreams to become a writer. Successful writer In 1949, a 23-year-old Lee arrived in New York City. She worked as a ticket agent for Eastern Airlines for several years . While in the city, Lee made friend with Broadway composer and lyricist Michael Martin Brown and his wife Joy.In 1956, the Browns gave Lee an important Christmas present—to support(უზრუნველყოფა) her for a year so that she could write full time. Lee started working on a novel set in a small Alabama town, which eventually became her novel To Kill a Mockingbird. 'To Kill a Mockingbird' In July 1960, To Kill a Mockingbird was published(გამოქვეყნება) in Reader's Digest magazine. The following year, To Kill a Mockingbird won the prestigious Pulitzer Prize and several other literary awards(ჯილდო) . Earning eight Academy Award nominations, the movie version of To Kill a Mockingbird won three awards. A classic of American literature, To Kill a Mockingbird has been translated into more than 40 languages with more than a million copies sold each year. Later life In November 2007, President George W. Bush presented Lee with the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her "outstanding contribution(ბანსაკუთრებული წვლილი) to America's literary tradition" at a ceremony at the White House. Harper Lee died on February 19, 2016, at the age of 89 in Monroeville.

To kill a mockingbird The story happens in a small town of Maycomb in Alabama in the1930s. To Kill A Mockingbird focuses on a widower(ქვრივი) Atticus Finch who raises his children by himself and with the help of a strict housekeeper Calpurnia. Scout and Jem Finch have various small journeys throughout the story and learn many important lessons. Scout never acts like a girl. She hates the school.Jem often criticizes her for her manners but Atticus accepts Scout as she is. One day Scout and Jem discover that Atticus is going to defense an African American man, Tom Robinson who is accused(დადანაშაულება) of raping and beating a white woman, Mayella.But Atticus proves that Tom could not have committed the crime and is innocent(უდანაშაულო) but Tom is sent to prison anyway. Atticus is a fair man who believes in equal rights(თანაბარი უფლებები) and most of all believes in the importance of moral. The title of the book is taken from Atticus's advice to his children about firing their air rifles at birds: "Shoot all the blue jays(კაჭკაჭი) you want, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird". Mockingbirds do nothing but "sing their hearts out for us". The mockingbird represents innocence, and to kill a mockingbird is to kill innocence. “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view. Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.”
