Soft Skills Work Experience

Problem Solving The global organization, Assessment and Teaching of 21st Century Skills (ATCS), has identified collaborative problem solving skills as one of the most essential 21st Century workplace skills. Apollo 13 video

Problem Solving The analytic power of a group is greater than that of any of its’ single members. Research supports the fact that groups are able to deal with more complex types of problems because, together, a group has a larger range of experiences, skills and abilities than a single individual. Groups of three, four or five outperform the best individual problem solvers! Apollo 13 video

Problem Solving Share a group problem solving experience. What did you enjoy about that experience? What did you not enjoy about that experience?

Risky Sports 3 8 7 5 1 4 2 6 Motorcycle Racing Horse Racing Sky Diving Quietly, on your own, rank each sport, 1 – 8, according to the danger of risk of injury to the participant, 1 being the most dangerous. Now, with your group, rank each sport according to the danger of risk. You must all agree! 3 Motorcycle Racing 8 Horse Racing 7 Sky Diving 5 Mountain Climbing 1 Boxing 4 Scuba Diving 2 Football 6 Hang Gliding This is another option for an Overview slide.

REMEMBER Job interviewers want to know about your ability to solve problems. Be ready to respond to these two important questions: How do you go about solving problems? What are the benefits of collaborative problem solving?
