Israel’s Present Rejection Romans 10:1-13

Paul’s Longing Rom 10:1 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. Roms 9:1-5

Misplaced Zeal 2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. def. zeal – fervor, enthusiastic diligence

Misplaced Zeal Paul was a man of zeal Phl 3:5 Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, [of] the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee; 6 Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless. 7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.

The results of our zeal… Misplaced Zeal The results of our zeal… 2Ti 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

KEY POINT#1 Mis-aimed zeal always leads us to our own forms of godliness, our own self-righteousness

Established their own Righteousness 3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

Established their own Righteousness What has led them down this path? When people establish a worldview it is very difficult to disrupt their comforts. The issue is submission

Misguided Allegiances 4 For Christ [is] the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. 5 For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.

Misguided Allegiances Lev 18:5 Ye shall therefore keep my statutes, and my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live in them: I [am] the LORD.

Misguided Allegiances Paul likens the law to a teacher/mentor Gal 3:23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. 24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster [to bring us] unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

KEY POINT#2 Our best religious intentions cannot produce righteousness, only faith in Jesus can.

He is quoting Deuteronomy 30:11 Misinformed Salvation 6 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down [from above]:) 7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) 8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, [even] in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; He is quoting Deuteronomy 30:11

KEY POINT #3 Righteousness is belief in Christ and Christ is near to you

Salvation Made Known 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

KEY POINT #4 Salvation begins with belief of the heart and results in a life of declaration
