Building our equity lens in LA Thursday, February 19, 2015 6:15 – 7:30 PM OUP 11/21/2018

Quote “There is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about.” Margaret Wheatley 11/21/2018

Equity means every child receives what he or she needs to develop to his or her full academic and social potential.

Dyad Guidelines Each person: Has equal time to talk Listens without interrupting, giving advice, or breaking in with a personal story Maintains confidentiality Does not criticize or complain about others during their time to talk Gives undivided attention: no eating or cell phones 4

When you reflect on the definition of equity, what comes up for you? Dyad Reflection When you reflect on the definition of equity, what comes up for you? 11/21/2018

Site Meeting Agenda 6:15 – 7:30 PM Create Personal Life Maps- As we re-commit to COLLEGE FOR CERTAIN, we will understand more about ourselves and what we bring to our schools and students. Reflect on Personal Bias- Read and discuss “No, You’re Not Imagining It” by Isabel Wilkerson Team Talk- Generate (and record) questions about what we think our school’s attendance and discipline data might reveal when we look at it in March. 11/21/2018

Directions for Life Maps and Article Read Life Map (40 minutes) -- Divide into groups of 3-4. -- Work on your individual life maps silently for 10-15 minutes. -- Each person in the group highlights 4 important events in your life that have led you to where you are today. You can demonstrate them however you like (visually, words, etc.) Share out as time permits. Article Read (15 minutes) -- In groups of 3-4, divide the article and read/highlight. -- Depending on the size of the group, either jigsaw the reading, or go right to summarizing it as a group. -- Discuss what this means for you and what resonated with you. 11/21/2018

Team Talk- Looking forward to your data Questions about your school’s data (5 minutes) Using the whiteboard or chart paper, brainstorm the following: What are some questions we have about what our school’s attendance and discipline data might show, given our team’s own Life Maps and personal biases? PLEASE PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION TO QUESTIONS REGARDING GENDER, ETHNICITY, LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY, POVERTY LEVELS, ETC. Please take a photo or keep your brainstorming questions in preparation for your school’s Winter Lead Retreat Part 2 in March. 11/21/2018

Materials Please pick up Life Map materials and copies of the article before leaving the U Hall. 11/21/2018
