Sight Lab: Complete the exercises and drop in d2l by the end of school on Tuesday (10/18).

Directions: You will need a quiet semi-dark place to complete this lab These exercises are designed to help you better understand how and why we see things For each exercise, follow the link provided or carry out the activity based on the instructions Make sure to answer all questions for the ability to earn full credit If the summative activity is not completed, you will earn zero credit on this assignment

Activity 1: Hue Hue refers to the color as is determined by light. In this scenario, your neighbor has hired you to paint her house. Unfortunately, on the day you were supposed to pick paint colors, your neighbor was called out of town to sing back up for One Direction on their international tour. She has told you that she wants the following colors for her house. Exterior Main: Yellow () Exterior Trim: Green () Interior Hallways: Red () Interior Bedrooms: Blue () Interior Bathrooms: Pink () Interior Trim: Orange () Interior Cabinets: White () She also mentioned that she likes “bright colors” Now go to the Behr Paint website and pick the hues that you will use keeping in mind her requested colors. Make note of the hues you picked in the parentheses next to the “Colors” your neighbor picked then shade the box the hue you chose Based on picking out the “colors” what does this suggest about the amount of hues that exist?

Activity 2: Hue (Extra Credit)(5 pts.) Go back to Behr’s site and get me pictures that show your beautiful paint job (save and paste them here)

Activity 3: Saturation The term saturation refers to how pure a color is Look at the colors below. The purity of the color becomes less as one moves to the right. What does this suggest about the true nature of pink? Look at the two samples to the right. Which one is the most saturated blue? Why?

Activity 4: Saturation and jeans Your friend has asked you to buy him 3 new pairs of jeans from Old Navy Unfortunately, you were put on house arrest due to excessive jay-walking. Since you cannot go, you will need to hop online and order these jeans. He has said that he wants a saturated blue, a neutral blue, and a desaturated blue. Paste the pictures below of the jeans you chose.

Activity 5: Brightness Brightness refers to the overall sensation of intensity based on the wavelengths that make up light. Which of the yellows to right is the “brightest? Why?

Activity 6: Feature Detectors Look at the pictures below. For each picture, which features do you detect first? What does this tell you about your feature detectors?

Summative Activity: Q: In a well written summary below, of about a page (but done digitally or below), and using the examples that we covered in this lab, explain how we sense and perceive what we see and how our perception on sight can be changed by changes in hue, saturation, brightness, and feature detectors.
