Aryan’s Change India

The 1st Civilization of India The first civilization in India began around 2500 B.C. in the Indus Valley. The two most important cities were Mohenjo-Daro & Harappa. These cities were very advanced they had a drain and sewage system and streets that were carefully laid out in grids.

A Mystery?? No one knows what happened to either of these cities. But the items left in the city suggests that it was abandoned suddenly. Maybe because of an earthquake, flood, or invaders.

The Aryans Around 1500 B.C a large number of people began to migrate or move into India The earliest immigrants called themselves Aryans They were warriors and herders who came from Central Asia.

Why India? No one knows why the Aryans left their homeland, but they did!! The majority of the Aryans occupied Northern India.

The Fight for Land As more and more Aryans migrated to India, they began to compete with the native people of India for land. They had one advantage though; they had horse-drawn and chariots which allowed them to defeat their enemies Until the Aryans arrived, there were no horses in India. Small villages began to appear throughout the countryside.

Aryan Culture Much of what we know about the Aryans comes from the Vedas. The Vedas is a religious book with a collection of poems, myths, & beliefs. They brought their language Sanskrit, which even today many Indian languages are based on. Finally, the Aryan religion developed into the religion of Hinduism.
