Patterns in Art text taken from Harcourt “Art Everywhere” Grade 5

Artists repeat lines, shapes, and colors in their artworks to create PATTERNS.

Look at the images below Look at the images below. How would you describe the pattern the artist created? Notice the way the shapes are lined up in horizontal rows and vertical columns? When rows and columns cross, they form a GRID like a pattern on graph paper.

We learned today about patterns in art, but we also know that patterns are a part of our daily lives, especially in the fashions we wear. Patterns usually make outfits more stylish or interesting, like this…

But sometimes, patterns can go horribly wrong…
