Teacher: Mrs Blacker Teaching Assistant: Mrs Fox Welcome to 4W Teacher: Mrs Blacker Teaching Assistant: Mrs Fox Together we love life, learning and God

Timetable Maths and English lessons take place every day in class groups. Children have Coach Kyle once a week for outdoor PE on Wednesdays and also have another PE session on Fridays with the class teacher. The weekly timetable also includes RE, Guided Reading, Spelling, French and IPC subjects. We are very lucky in 4W that we have the WOPS music programme. Each child will learn to play the clarinet, taught weekly by a music specialist and supported by the Class Teacher. Children can take their instrument home for extra practice!

International Primary curriculum engaging exciting The IPC is a comprehensive, thematic, creative curriculum with a clear process of learning and with specific learning goals for subjects which include science, history, geography, art, music, ICT and design technology. It also includes an important element for international mindedness and for personal learning. relevant creative

Our first IPC unit this term is called ‘Saving our World – The Rainforest’ This unit covers all areas of the curriculum with a particular focus on geography and science. Some of the tasks for this unit will involve children completing some work at home; e.g. research work. We are hoping to arrange a trip to a rainforest this term!

Reading It is an expectation that all children read regularly at home. Each child will be provided with a suitable book. This will be changed regularly, as appropriate. Your child will have a reading diary which should be brought to school every day. It requires the children to comment on their reading and will be checked once a week, signed or stamped. Parents are also welcome to add comments to the diary. Your child will have Guided Reading sessions which include comprehension work and sentence level tasks. This year 4W will be a ‘buddy’ class with RW.

Homework In Year 4, homework is given out on a Friday and collected in on a Wednesday. Children have a homework book for written work. Maths homework is computer based, using ‘Mathletics’ and written activities from ‘Ocean Maths’. Reading, spellings and times tables are expected to be learned in addition to the Friday homework.

Ocean Maths A new scheme to support their mathematical learning and homework Involves a workshop each term when parents are invited to join their children for a hands-on session Also games and activities will be sent home as part of the homework policy The first workshop is on 12th October

Year 4 Residential trip This year we will be taking the children on a two night residential visit. Last year, the children enjoyed three days at Phasel’s Wood, near Kings Langley in Hertfordshire. This will be taking place on Wednesday 7th – Friday 9th June. Tonight, we have a letter for you giving initial information and costs.

Other information Any questions? PE kits should be in school every day and will be sent home at the end of each half-term. Queries and Questions – the class TA will be available in the playground to help in the mornings. Appointments with teachers through the office. Please collect a Home School Agreement to be signed.
