SIDNEY OPERA HOUSE

I chose the Sidney Opera House because its one of the greatest iconic buildings of the 20th century, an image of great beauty that has become known throughout the world. Its a symbol not only of a city, but a whole country and a continent.

Sydney Opera House ( ) is a masterpiece of late modern architecture. It is admired internationally and proudly treasured by the people of Australia. It was created by a young architect who understood and recognized the potential provided by stunning Sydney Harbor. Jørn Utzon gave Australia a challenging, graceful piece of urban sculpture. It opened the way for the immensely complex geometries of some modern architecture.

Sydney Opera House is a modern expressionist design. The distinctive roof comprises sets of interlocking vaulted shells, each one composed of sections of an hemisphere of the same radius, forming the roofs of the structure, set on a monumental podium. In its short lifetime, Sydney Opera House has earned a reputation as a world-class performing arts center and has become a symbol of both Sydney and the Australian nation.

Sydney Opera House also presents more than 700 of its own performances annually that offer an eclectic mix of artistic and cultural activities for all ages. It is also one of the most popular attractions in Australia, with more than 7 million people visiting the site each year

I consider that this magnificent building deserves to be named as one of the seven wonders of the world, because its a great architectural work that brings together multiple strands of creativity and innovation in both architectural form and structural design. The building is a great urban sculpture that has had an enduring influence on architecture.
