We learned about the naming part of a sentence. The naming part of a sentence tells us… Who? What?

The naming part of a sentence includes a noun The naming part of a sentence includes a noun. Nouns are words that name people, places, things, and animals.

We learned about action parts of a sentence. The action part of a sentence is made of the words that tell what a person or thing does.

“naps on Mom’s lap” is the action part of the sentence. Sam naps on Mom’s lap. What does Sam do? “naps on Mom’s lap” is the action part of the sentence.

“Sit in mud” is the action part of the sentence. The pigs sit in mud. What do the pigs do? “Sit in mud” is the action part of the sentence.

Ox packs the sack. What does Ox do? Packs the sack is the action part.

Now for something new!

A verb is sometimes a word that shows action.

An action verb is something you can do.

Here are some verbs. You should be able to do these things. run jump Here are some verbs. You should be able to do these things. walk step dance climb sing nap look kick sit swim

Sam naps on Mom’s lap. What is the action word? naps

The pigs sit in mud. What is the action word? sit

Test Practice: Find the verb in each sentence: I can walk to the park. The dog barked at me. Look at that big cat! My mom and dad jog around the park. Will you please help me?
