Goal of block scheduling Block Scheduling is designed to start first-time freshmen (FTF) off on the “right track” for their first quarter at Cal Poly Students are scheduled into their Fall classes based on “tracks,” which are reflections of the flowchart for majors 11/21/2018 www.calpoly.edu

process Tracks are built Schedule of Classes is built FTF are surveyed AP scores are loaded External process is run to build schedules (generate blocks) Student and Class blocks are loaded into PeopleSoft Review and adjust schedules Student schedules are available to students 11/21/2018 www.calpoly.edu

assumptions Departments will define clear tracks by major Track changes will be communicated within the department (i.e. Track changes are communicated to the Scheduler) Departments understand their course requirements Prerequisites Corequisites Sufficient seats will be offered for FTF, continuing, and transfer students Seats are saved for transfer students 11/21/2018 www.calpoly.edu

assumptions Departments will build schedules without course conflicts within their major courses No time conflicts between related components (i.e. lecture and lab) Schedule changes will be communicated within the department AP file will be ready to load early July FTF will submit their AP scores and any college transcripts FTF will answer survey questions FTF will have Admissions documents submitted by July 15th 11/21/2018 www.calpoly.edu

Issues we know about Late Advanced Placement (AP) scores will not be processed International Baccalaureate (IB) scores may be received late Holds on student records prevent block registration We enroll students whose holds have been removed; however, we stop right before schedules are released 11/21/2018 www.calpoly.edu
