Welcome to 8th Grade English! Literature Along with reading novels, students will read Pre AP Novels General English Novels Student choice October Country (selected stories) by Ray Bradbury – August-October The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien – mid November Scorpions by Walter Dean Myers – mid November Night by Elie Wiesel – late January/early February Diary of Anne Frank OR The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne – late January/early February Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare – late April/early May Another in the spring, yet to be decided Along with reading novels, students will read poetry, short stories and non fiction.

Writing In this class students can expect to write the following: Imaginative Stories Personal Narrative through This I Believe format Persuasive Essay Do the Write Thing Other Expository pieces Google Docs – I will be asking that any typed writing pieces be done on Google Docs. This will ensure that the document is not erased, lost, or forgotten. Students have created a “Writing Portfolio” in their Google Drive to house all of their typed pieces this year. Writer’s Notebooks – All students have a Writer’s Notebook that they will keep in class. We will use this for warm-up activities, short writing pieces, vocabulary and a place to house writing technique information.
