Presentation transcript:

Summary - what is your role in creating a more sustainable Cambridge? Waste – most of the waste produced in the College can be recycled. Look out for the posters on or near the bins which show what can be put in them. Travel – walk, cycle or take the University-subsidised Universal bus to get around the city. Food and drink – (insert relevant information here about sustainable food options, food waste, KeepCups etc.) Energy – dress appropriately for the season. Switch off lights and equipment when not in use. Water – don’t leave taps running. Report any dripping taps. Get more involved – become a sustainability leader and help take things to the next level: https://www.environment.admin.cam.ac.uk/students Visit (insert appropriate website link here) A summary of the tips which will be applicable in many College contexts. This could be expanded with more specific tips depending on the College context – e.g. how heating controls work, any variations between buildings or sites. If your College participates in the British Heart Foundation ‘Pack for Good’ scheme – where students donate unwanted items to the BHF, it would be good to mention this under the ‘waste’ section, and to inform students where there are collection points. If you do not currently participate in this, you can find more information about the scheme here: https://www.bhf.org.uk/shop/pack-for-good. If you use stickers to indicate what can be safely switched off – include an image on this slide and explain what they mean and where they are likely to be found. Point students towards the College Environmental Policy, and any relevant webpages on the College/JCR/MCR website. Let students know who they should contact if they have any questions relating to waste/recycling, heating controls, how to use computers/printers more efficiently etc. Make sure students are aware of the opportunities they have to get involved within the College. Introduce students to the key people in the College – Green Officers, any green reps or wardens, relevant members of staff.
