Presentation Skills Presentation Skills Don't stay still Speak Slowly - This is the most important thing. Speaking slowly allows your students to understand your pronunciation more clearly and it allows for easy note- taking by the students Speak loud and Clear Change voice tone Maintain eye contact with all students Use body language Draw participations from students Tell a joke or nice short story in case of loosing concentration Question 1 Question Train the trainer Workshop KIC
Presentation Skills Presentation Skills (cont’d) Allow students some time to copy from the board Explain topics using easiest approach (Be Creative) Satisfy yourself about students understanding Clear the topics from the board Do the same for the rest topics Give brief summary from the whole lecture Question 2 Train the trainer Workshop KIC
Presentation Skills (cont’d) Ask specific questions - Always check to be sure your students are following your information. Check to be sure they can see the board and transparencies. Always finish your lesson by asking if anyone has any questions. Teach male and female students with equal respect. The same holds true for people from different ethnic and linguistic backgrounds. Be prepared for each class. Have a lesson plan ready. Have additional activities or lessons prepared if there is extra time. Remember to write your topic on the board every time. This helps students to focus. It allows latecomers to class to get an idea about which you are talking. Question 3 Train the trainer Workshop KIC
Presentation Skills (cont’d) Look at your students - Don't teach to the board or transparency. Eye contact is an important non-verbal teaching tool with students. Learn your students' names as soon as possible. Repeat information in more than one way (example: While lecturing, show visuals, use transparencies, use coloured markers to highlight). If you use a transparency, have a pointer, pencil, or ruler to point instead of your fingers. Give examples - it helps to give 'real life' examples Question 4 Train the trainer Workshop KIC
The Three Major Areas Independent Learning: Practical Skills: Use of LRC: in-class and home assignments that require students to learn topics not explained to them by the lecturer in advance certain Activities and Projects Visit the library first and choose the books that want your students to see Tours with the students (Compulsory from now on). Question in the home-assignment about something was not explained by the teacher. Presentation or discussion about a book or part of a book (whether read in the library of a free book on the internet).
