MRV Group of Friends Informal coordination mechanism Presentation title MRV Group of Friends Informal coordination mechanism 14 collaborating institutions/countries Activities/Meetings: Meetings held May and November 2016; planned meeting May 2017 Possible 1-2 day meeting in 2017 focused on sharing tools Initial list of Planned and Ongoing Activities Virtual Workspace for Collaboration: List of Planned and Ongoing Activities Available Tools Geographical priority areas for collaboration Contact List Terms of Reference A group of organizations, actively involved in supporting developing countries in the implementation of the existing MRV arrangements under the Convention and getting ready for participation in the transparency framework under the Paris Agreement, have met twice, on the margins of the 44th session of the Subsidiary Bodies, and in the margins of COP22. The organizations and countries that participated in one or both meetings include: UNFCCC, UNDP/UNEP Global Support Program (GSP), FAO, GIZ, US EPA, ICAT, IPCC, Canada, EU, WRI, JICA, Swiss Development Cooperation Agency, Greenhouse Gas Inventory & Research Center of Korea (GIR), and the Coalition on Paris Agreement Capacity Building. The purpose of the Group of Friends is to establish an informal coordination mechanism among engaged organizations in order to explore synergies, strengthen collaboration and improve effectiveness. Therefore, our activities to date have focussed on exploring these synergies and finding ways to enhance collaboration. In 2016 the Group of Friends developed a list of ongoing and planned activities, by organization and country/region, with inputs from all organizations. This enabled some basic graphical analysis showing “hot spots” of support activities, where several organizations were conducting activities simultaneously indicating the need for collaboration in order to minimize duplication of efforts. As agreed by the Group of Friends in November 2016, a virtual workspace is currently under development. In addition to the List of Planned and Ongoing Activities, there will be a space for sharing Tools, Geographical priority areas for collaboration, and a contact list. At its next meeting, the Group of Friends will also review a draft Terms of Reference.
