Tentative Course descriptions Summer Course 2017 Introduction to the European Union COURSE DESCRIPTION / AIMS This lecture/workshop will provide students with an insight into the European integration process, based on a historical overview of the development of the European Union. Students will be made familiar with the structure and institutions of the European Union. CONTENT Students will be introduced to the origins of the European integration process, given the most important developments within its more-than-50-year history and then be familiarised with the most important institutions running the Union and how they interact with one another. Tentative Course descriptions Summer Course 2017 EU Enlargement COURSE DESCRIPTION / AIMS The goal of this lecture is to understand the European enlargement process and thus not only the simple increase in member states but also the ongoing deepening of cooperation inside the EU as for instance the enlargement of the Eurozone. After a short overview of changes in the European map since 1900 this lecture focuses on the enlargement process after the fall of the iron curtain. Chances and challenges of both, old and (potential) new member states, are analyzed.
