Table of contents Background of the project Review of planning Deliverables Achievements in phase 2 Deployment in Member States

Objectives of ESDEN Enable the usage of new data sources Increasing security, sensitive data Upgrade capacity, high volumes Creation of efficient and robust statistical processes Modernise interfaces Use standard transmission protocols Foster automation

Review of planning Phase 1 (2015-2016) Phase 2 (2016-2017) Secure infrastructure for the pilot on microdata exchange (SIMSTAT) Phase 2 (2016-2017) Connect rest of ESS members to the secure network infrastructure Modernisation of the data exchange infrastructure (EDAMIS) Phase 3 (2018) Integrate with new generations of secure networks

ESDEN phase 2 deliverables Provide connectivity to secure networks A new EDAMIS ESDEN has two main objectives, and therefore two main areas of activities: 1. provide connectivity to secure european networks, operated by the European Commission (i.e. TESTA, CCN); and 2. modernise EDAMIS.

Connectivity to secure networks For International Trade in Goods Organisations involved in the micro-data exchange in FRIBS must connect to secure networks Most participating organisations connected Work plan has been put in place to: Connect remaining organisations Test connectivity Gradually start the micro-data exchange in production All must be ready when FRIBS comes into force Work in coordination with ESS VIP IT Task Force (IT aspects) MDE Task Force (International Trade) ESDEN has two main objectives, and therefore two main areas of activities: 1. provide connectivity to secure european networks, operated by the European Commission (i.e. TESTA, CCN); and 2. modernise EDAMIS.

Connectivity to secure networks ESDEN has two main objectives, and therefore two main areas of activities: 1. provide connectivity to secure european networks, operated by the European Commission (i.e. TESTA, CCN); and 2. modernise EDAMIS. Organisations participating in the micro-data exchange in International Trade in Goods

Other organisations connected Beyond micro-data exchange An optional, extra security feature To transmit statistical data in a secure way Other organisations connected NSI Spain NSI UK (ongoing) National Bank Spain European Central Bank ESDEN has two main objectives, and therefore two main areas of activities: 1. provide connectivity to secure european networks, operated by the European Commission (i.e. TESTA, CCN); and 2. modernise EDAMIS.

Connectivity to secure networks Achievements Phase 1: 20 organisations connected for micro-data exchange Phase 2: 10 more connections for micro-data exchange finished TESTA network validated (with ES, SE, NL), it offers a choice to MSs on how to connect The data revolution is already presenting official statistics with profound strategic questions Global digital transformation Ever increasing availability of data We want to harness new data sources to produce meaningful statistics

The new EDAMIS Single Entry Point for data in all domains Benefits Supports standard protocols for automated exchange of data Enhanced security Enhanced performance Adapted to new technological landscape The data revolution is already presenting official statistics with profound strategic questions Global digital transformation Ever increasing availability of data We want to harness new data sources to produce meaningful statistics

The new EDAMIS Achievements New architecture designed and implemented Development finished Migration plan prepared Already being tested with volunteering countries The data revolution is already presenting official statistics with profound strategic questions Global digital transformation Ever increasing availability of data We want to harness new data sources to produce meaningful statistics

The new EDAMIS: deployment Manual exchange of data Central web portal hosted by Eurostat Already available for testing through TESTA and the Internet Currently being tested with Transmission Coordinators of volunteering Member States To be open in production in 2018 The data revolution is already presenting official statistics with profound strategic questions Global digital transformation Ever increasing availability of data We want to harness new data sources to produce meaningful statistics

The new EDAMIS: deployment Automatic exchange of data New transmission protocols will be gradually made available as production operations are migrated to the new infrastructure Organisations will have the option to use the new services at any time Capacity building: training sessions on the new services of EDAMIS being prepared Eurostat will support and provide guidance The data revolution is already presenting official statistics with profound strategic questions Global digital transformation Ever increasing availability of data We want to harness new data sources to produce meaningful statistics
