Theories of Dreaming Unit 2

Activation – Synthesis Theory of Dreaming (1977) The activation-synthesis model is a theory of dreaming developed by researchers Hobson and McCarley. suggests that dreams are caused by the physiological processes of the brain That the brain sends random messages that then create a story states that brain activation during REM sleep results in production of dreams

Stages of Sleep In pairs, complete the stages of sleep cut n stick activity Do not use text books! When complete, check with me! Then complete the stages of sleep worksheet – use the gap on the sheet to write the 5 stages of sleep in your own words – words that will help you remember the different stages

Concepts in the AST of dreaming Using your text books…. Page 65 ~ complete the table key terminology on your 3rd page of the worksheet I gave you last lesson (you may have saved this onto your computer… If you have, make notes of the terms and definitions Concepts in the AST of dreaming REM sleep Sensory blockade Etc

Exam Question…. Neurons are the cells that make up our nervous system and communicate with one another to send messages around the brain and body. How do neurons communicate with one another? You can use a diagram to help you explain your answer. Spend 10mins developing some answer to this question…. We will go through as a class

Lets look at the Marking scheme!! What is missing from your answer? What do you need to focus on in the future? i.e. what didn’t you do? Examiners report – what do they tell us?
