Carthage High School’s Virtual Learning Center A Virtual Learning Experience

Virtual Learning Center classes are similar to on-line correspondence courses except students have more help with their coursework. Students can expect to spend about 80% to 90% of their time on the computer, and the rest of their time on off-line assignments like writing, videos, and novels.

There are 50 core curriculum and elective classes available. Art Appreciation Algebra 2 A&B Wld Geography Humanities 1&2 Geometry US Geography Photography College Readiness Algebra Anthropology Language Arts 1 A&B Physical Science A&B Psychology Language Arts 2 A&B Earth & Space Science Sociology Language Arts 3 A&B Comprehensive Biology Health Language Arts 4 A&B Chemistry Lifetime Fitness College Readiness Reading World History A&B Keyboard 1&2 Refresher Math A&B American History A&B Parenting Pre-Algebra Personal Finance Work Credit Algebra 1 A&B Government Workplace R.

These classes can be accessed not only from the Virtual Learning Center’s Main Location, but from several remote locations in our district before, during, and after school. Tech Center High School Media Center High School Computer Labs High School Transition Center High School ISS Classrooms High School Counseling Office Individual Teachers’ Classrooms Throughout the District

All Virtual Learning Center classes are free to Carthage High School students.

Potential students must meet with the Virtual Learning Center staff for paperwork, procedures, and expectations. Virtual Learners will be paired with a Volunteer Supervising Adult.

Consistent progress is mandatory Consistent progress is mandatory. Students must meet with their agreed upon Supervising Adult at least once per week, or as directed, to monitor progress.

The Virtual Learning Center staff is responsible for correcting any computer problems or questions about the computer. Please call 359-7045, email, or come by the Main Location for assistance.

Students are expected to make arrangements with the Virtual Learning Center staff to work on those assignments that must be completed at the Main Location.

All assignments must be satisfactorily completed before a grade or credit is issued. Incomplete work or zeros are not accepted.

The Virtual Learning Experience is just another example of how the Carthage R-9 school district is meeting the needs of their students and providing the best possible education available. This innovative, alternative educational opportunity will not only enrich the lives of Carthage students and allow for a greater chance to achieve their goals of graduation, but will provide the flexibility and convenience needed in today’s fast-paced highly technical world.
