The Neuron

The Neuron The basic unit of the nervous system. A single cell capable of receiving and relaying information. Of all the cells in our body, only neurons interact. Estimated that the average human has 100 billion neurons in his/her nervous system.

Axon: Outgoing, thick projection off of the soma (output). Structure of a Neuron 3 Basic Parts: Soma: Body of the cell. Axon: Outgoing, thick projection off of the soma (output). Dendritic branches: incoming, thin projections off of the soma (input).
