Tips about being a DM Workshop
Say YES!!! This is THE MOST IMPORTANT THING!!! Say YES!! Say yes to everything your players suggest (within reason) and let them try it Saying no to your players when they want to do something risky or something not clearly defined in the rules makes them feel limited Improvise!
You have the final say Your word is the final verdict of what happens in the game Don’t be unreasonable!! If your players disagree, try to work with them within reason
Prioritize fun over rules Don’t be a rules lawyer!! If you and the players have a question on a ruling, come up with a quick solution and read up on it later Your main goal is to make sure the players (and yourself) are having fun
Prepare for your adventure As it goes with everything, school comes first! If you have obligations, put them before d&d Before your session, you should prepare a bit for your adventure so your not starting the session blind and unprepared Going in without a plan is OK if you have the experience to do it
Know the rules Try and familiarize yourself with the rules as much as possible The more time you are looking in the book, the more time you are losing to play Know your rules but don’t stick closely to them The books are REFERENCE
Narrate your npc’s You should make sure you say everything your npc’s are saying or doing very clear Make sure your players understand what you are conveying Give nps’s personality
Fun is #1 Above all else, have fun with this Be you and express yourself and your voices or roleplaying skills https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyIoh1QiW2g&index=48&list=P LTgwt_ewEFeOOkmlWK1i652_B9KWrI7XR Video for new Dm’s Watch some Dawnforgedcast (very good d&d videos)
