SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT RETAKE PROCEDURE Effective 2nd Quarter Students are required to complete certain tasks prior to the original assessment to earn an opportunity to take a re-test, regardless of their performance. (I.E study guides) These tasks will be communicated at the beginning of the unit. Effective 3rd Quarter 6th Grade students will be allowed to retake only 1 summative assessment per quarter. The student will choose the summative assessment and must have completed all the required tasks in order to complete the retake

SCIENCE CLASSROOM PROCEDURES Make-Up Work and Science Notebook Make Up Work Absent students check the blog for make up work Get your “while you were out” form when you return Make-up work handed out to student when they return. Science Binder Binder to hold paper in clasps and pockets Table of Contents Keep papers in order according to table of contents Turn in to classroom portfolio each major unit Portfolio given back at the end of the year.

SCIENCE HOMEWORK and CLASSWORK Flipped Classroom AND Problem Based Learning (PBL) Homework in science class has been flipped. I will video a lot of my lecture and notes. Students will watch the video from home and complete their notes by watching the video. Students will do more labs, hands-on, activities, and practice in class when they have the teacher with them to help them. We are also doing a lot more problem based learning this year. The students get frustrated because I don’t give them a lot of their answers, but provide them with the resources to find out the answers themselves. CONS No computer at home Computer does not work Students HAVE to do their homework. PROS Pause and stop video as needed to write at own pace Watch video several times during the unit. Review video before major assessment More time for inquiry / real science Parents know what we are teaching, they can watch the videos
