Presentation transcript:

Though Jesus is called “the Word”… He is often portrayed as being relatively unconcerned about the written communication of God (the Scriptures). It is suggested that a major part of His conflict with the Pharisees, was that they were overly strict in their approach to the word. While Jesus manifested God’s grace, He also demanded obedience to the word!

“Jesus And The Scriptures” (Jn. 1:1-3; 2 Tim. 3:16-17)

Jesus And The Scriptures Jesus had a PROFOUND respect for the word. Lk. 4:4, 8, 12; Mt. 9:9-13; 21:12-13; Jn. 13:18; Mt. 26:31, 55-56; 27:46; Mt. 12:1-8; 19:3-6; Lk. 8:11-15; Mt. 5:17-18; Heb. 8:7; Jn. 10:31-36; Lk. 24:44-47; 2 Tim. 3:16- 17

Jesus And The Scriptures Jesus had a PROFOUND respect for the word. Jesus COMMANDED Obedience. Jesus believed the scriptures COULD BE UNDERSTOOD. Jesus USED THE WORD in OPPOSING others. Jn. 5:38, 39, 44-47 Mt. 15:1-9; 21:12-13, 40-46; Eph. 5:11; Mt. 22:31, 32; Jude 1:3-4; Eph. 6:17

Jesus And The Scriptures Though Jesus is called “the Word”… He is often portrayed as being relatively unconcerned about the written communication of God (the Scriptures). What have we learned today? The word can be understood. The word should be made our rule in life. Obedience to, and defense of the word, are essential.

Have you been obedient to the word ?  How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? Romans 10:14 (NKJV)  "Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. Matt 10:32 (NKJV) Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38 (NKJV) But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them 2 Tim 3:14 (NKJV)
