Species Richness & Diversity Species richness is the number of different species in an area. Species diversity is the same as species richness except that population sizes are considered. If population sizes are near equal, the area has a higher species diversity

Considering only these 2 species, what is the species richness? According to the graph, was species diversity higher in 1982 or 1994?

Biodiversity The variety of life in an area. Biodiversity can be measured on scales as small as DNA molecules (genes), or as large as the entire global environment

How many species? 1-2 million different species have been described (most insects) Total on Earth? It’s hard to guess! It’s definitely somewhere between 4 – 100 million. THAT’S A LOT OF BIODIVERSITY!
