Continuous Scottish House Condition Survey BESAC 23 June 2004

What is the CSHCS? Fieldwork carried out throughout the year instead of once every 5/6 years Same amount of data collected: Paired case targets –3,000 per year –9,000 by Q –15,000 by Q3 2008

The survey is designed to… Monitor the physical condition of the housing stock at a national level over time Provide a benchmark for local surveys Supplement the system of resource allocation Be an information resource for research and policy development in housing and regeneration

Why did we go continuous? Increased flexibility of content of reporting in managing problems Remove seasonal effects More efficient use of resources

Management of the survey Strategic guidance delivered by a broad partnership of key stakeholders Close partnership with DD ONS and MMBL expertise Consultation

Reporting Primary purpose is to report nationally but LAs need information too –Sample structured to report key variables at LA level Get the facts and figures into the public domain as early as possible without compromising validity or reliability

Reporting Approach is about adding value Policy support Fuel poverty SHQS Further research Housing and Health Report

Reporting Currently developing options: Continuous reporting as sample size permits. Set reporting milestones with additional thematic reports.
