Not sure what you want do? Choices360 www.choices360.com username: ds_ _ _ _ _ _initials example: ds123456tt password: DS_ _ _ _ _ _ example: DS123456

Not sure what you want do? Don’t stress! High school is the time to explore so just pick classes that interest you! You can’t mess this up!

What do I need for graduation? 4 English 4 Math 4 Science 4 Social Sciences 2 LOTE 1 Fine Art 1 PE 6 Electives

Typical Freshman Schedule 4 Core Classes 4 Electives which usually includes a principles class

FAQ’S How many classes do I need to take? You need to select 4 core classes (English, math, science, and history), 1 Principles/Pathways class and 3 electives. Remember that band, athletics, and Dazzlers count as 2 electives. What classes are double-blocked (scheduled each day)? Band, athletics and Dazzlers with the exception of tennis and cheer, are double blocked. Can I “double up” on a core class (ex. take 2 math classes)? You may not take 2 core classes in the same subject area without current teacher’s approval. Will I have study hall on my schedule? We do not currently offer a study hall in high school. If you are struggling in a course we encourage you to attend morning tutorials.

FAQ’S Continued What if I want to change my schedule once school starts? Standard core and elective courses may be changed during the first 10 days of school (schedule change request form available in the counseling center.) Dropping or leveling down from a PAP or AP level course will be done between the 3rd and 4th week of school (after 3-week progress reports). Remember, your grade will follow you to your new course! How many volunteer hours are required for graduation? Volunteer hours are not required to graduate. However, students that earn 150 hours while in high school will earn the Principal’s Volunteer Service Award and chord at graduation. In addition, volunteer hours are useful on college applications. Can I have 2 different sports on my schedule? Students may only have 1 sport on their schedule at a time. This is due to UIL eligibility rules. If you do participate in 2 sports, select the sport that occurs first. What if I just want to learn to play a sport? Our athletic periods are designated for students that have prior knowledge in the sport and have intentions of trying out for the team. When are athletic tryouts? Many sports hold tryouts during the summer – contact the coach or visit DSHS athletic website for more information and available Summer Camps. What if I don’t play a sport but need PE credit? Take Tiger Fit, Musical Theatre, or Dance 1 PE. These are a 1 credit physical education courses that fulfill PE graduation requirements.

What Do I Do If I Have Questions Later? SSMS students: Ask Ms. Allen or Mrs. Johnson DSMS students: Ask Mrs. Coleman or Mr. Greebon Email your high school counselor Write the question down and we will help you when we return
