Program Overview Engineering Honors Seminar Spring 2018 Introduce yourself—name, class year, major, etc. Tell them how long you’ve been in the ZLP! Engineering Honors Seminar Spring 2018
Zachry Leadership Program Basics Joint partnership with Zachry Group. Creative Leadership Five-semesters (15 credit hours) of Leadership, Business, and Citizenship for engineering students. 32 members per cohort. With this slide, you can tell them what the ZLP is. “Creative Leadership” is a reference to Zachry Group’s internal leadership development program they’ve been using with their executives for the last 10 years; we are modeled after it. I think a lot of students get scared away by the extra classes. Maybe point out that the courses don’t require much outside of class work, and that the stuff we do outside of class is typically journaling, reading interesting books, and other non-homework-y stuff.
Benefits of the Zachry Leadership Program Earn a Certificate in Leadership Receive a $1,000 scholarship each semester Interact with industry and other departments on campus Mentor and be mentored Create strong relationships Participate in five pre-semester retreats Here’s where we try to hook them! Feel free to add to this list or to highlight the benefits that appreciate the most!
Personal Leadership Development Self Awareness Empathy Awakening Beauty & Creativity Vocation Path to Wisdom Here we want to give them a glimpse of how we approach leadership development. You don’t have to explain all of the leadership emphases in detail—we just want them to understand that we’re not sitting around researching a bunch of theory. We’re taking a reflective, dialogic, creative approach that allows each person to go on a personal exploration, within a learning community of like-minded people. At the end of the program, we want the graduates to be ready to make a difference in the world, whether on a small or grand scale.
