The Invention of Cars The first cars were built in the early l800s. Wealthy people, like doctors, bought them. At first, many roads were not good for the cars, because they were made out of dirt. Guess what happens to the dirt when it rains? Guess what happens to the car? Eventually many roads were paved to allow for easy traveling. Many people could not drive their cars when it was raining, because most cars did not have a roof or windshield.
