Beaty Butte HMA Southern Oregon 437,120 acres 396,520 ac federal 640 ac state 37,040 ac private Sagebrush/Sage-grouse habitat Heavily grazed by horses Exacerbated by drought

Beaty Butte HMA 1,500 horse in 2015 Appropriate Management Level (AML) = 100 – 250 horses Concern: Horse health & condition Rangeland habitat condition ww.BLM.gov

What was done? 4-5 capture sites (traps) 1070 horses gathered in November 2105: 240 foals 436 mare 395 studs Returned 100 horses to HMA: 60 studs 40 mares ww.BLM.gov ww.BLM.gov

Partnership for Success Beaty Butted Wild Horse Gather, Fertility Control and Training Program Oregon BLM partnering with the Beaty Butte Wild Horse Training Facility (non-profit organization) Partnership to: train and adopt excess horses implement a fertility control program assist in bait-trap gathers.
