MicroE Systems Mercury II™ Family of Encoders This presentation is for introducing MII1900 and MII1600 to customers.

MicroE Systems Overview Mercury™ and Mercury II™ Family of Encoders – 33 models New Mercury II Encoders ChipEncoder™ DRC Encoders Data Storage Encoders & Related Products Use this slide to give a very brief overview of the range of encoders made by MicroE Systems. This slide is intended to last 30 seconds or less, and sometimes is not needed at all. “New Mercury II Encoders” draws attention to the two new models being introduced in this presentation. If the customer is unfamiliar with MicroE Systems / GSI Group and wants to know more, use the company background slides from the “MicroE company and product presentation” that you already have.

Mercury II Encoder Family Explain the three Mercury II models: MII4000: high performance with A-quad-B output; programmable resolution up to 1.2nm; includes limits; works with tape or glass, linear or rotary. MII1900: high performance with analog 1Vpp sin/cos output for customer interpolation up to x4096 (5nm); works with linear tape or glass; stick-on index. MII1600: 0.5m resolution and repeatability, A-quad-B output; works with linear tape; stick-on index. New New Accuracy: Tape: 5m/m (after two-point linearization in the customer’s controller) Glass (MII4000/1900): up to 1m

MII1900/1600 Outputs MII1900 Analog, 1Vpp sin/cos Customer interpolation up to x4096 MII1600 Digital, A-quad-B 0.5m resolution and repeatability Index Window is ~ 20m wide; edges are repeatable Outputs are differential No electronics in the connector Index Window Sin/Cos A, B Index Window

Mercury II Features Small, Low-Mass Sensor Broad Alignment Tolerances 8.7mm sensor Z height 6 gram sensor mass Enables more compact, faster moving motion system designs Broad Alignment Tolerances For faster setup Stick-on Optical Index Easy to apply – no adjustment required Bi-directional Repeatable at full speed Fits within the 6mm width of the tape scale Cut-to-length Tape Scale 20m scale pitch One reel of tape scale meets a wide range of application requirements and reduces inventory Features of Mercury II encoders. Alternative to this slide is to use the interactive product tour on the web site.

Mercury II Features Automatic Gain Control Resistance to scale contamination Reliable long-term performance Same Sensor – Tape or Glass Scales (MII4000/1900) Saves design time Reduces inventory Software For setup, monitoring and diagnostics Real-time displays Lissajous plot Signal strength plot Choice of Connectors (MII1900/1600) Fully-shielded 15 pin D-sub Space-saving 5x2 micro connector Customer connector Features of Mercury II encoders. Alternative to this slide is to use the interactive product tour on the web site.

Mercury II Customer Documents Private web site: web site Brochure Interactive product tours Data sheets Interface drawings Installation Manual Shows what customer documentation is on our web site. Visiting the web site is worthwhile, particularly to show the Interactive Product Tours and the Data Sheets page. If customers want detailed specifications, go to the data sheets on the web site.

Mercury II Demos Demonstrate the encoder, alignment tool, and software. Show the broad alignment tolerances by loosening the sensor mounting screws. Pass around a spare Mercury II sensor, index marker sheet, and piece of tape scale.
