5 Paragraph Narrative Essay Format Why I Love to Write Hate 5 Paragraph Narrative Essay Format

Introduction Paragraph Hook Personal experiences, questions, hyperbole The first time I… Have you ever wondered… The eraser on my #2 pencil sprouted fangs… Subject Introduction This sentence gives the reader a clue about the subject of the essay. 3 Reason Statements The 3 strongest reasons ( not details) from your brainstorming presented in a couple sentences – NOT a list! Thesis Statement Clearly state the purpose of your paper.

Roadkill. It looked like roadkill. Mrs Roadkill! It looked like roadkill! Mrs. Carleton put so much red correction ink on my story that I knew it could never be revived. It was the first week of 4th grade and I already knew my English grade was doomed. It was that day that I began to hate writing. For me, writing is uncomfortable. It’s unrewarding, and it is frustrating. As you will see, writing is a loathsome experience for me.

Body Paragraph 1 Topic sentence about the 1st of your 3 reasons. Supporting detail -1 Followed by an explanation or elaboration Supporting detail -2 Supporting detail -3 “So What?” Sentence. This shows, proves, illustrates…. reason from topic sentence Transition Links current paragraph while previewing the next paragraph

Example: Writing makes me very uncomfortable Example: Writing makes me very uncomfortable. Writing makes me stressed which hurts my chest. One time on the OAA the writing question made me feel like I was having a heart attack. The ache in my writing hand also makes writing uncomfortable. After finishing my ELA homework last week, my hand was still so sore it hurt to unbend my fingers at football practice. Writing is also emotionally painful. I get very self-conscious when I have to share my writing. This illustrates how very unpleasant writing is for me. Although writing can hurt, it is not as frustrating as when I can’t get my ideas onto paper!

Follow the same format as body 1 Body Paragraph 2 Follow the same format as body 1

Body Paragraph 3 Follow the same format as Body 1 and 2 except you will have a conclusion sentence at the end instead of a transition. Almost done….

Conclusion Restate your 3 reasons. Make a connection with the reader. Restate your thesis using different words. In conclusion, writing is far from my favorite past-time As I have illustrated, writing is a passion that it a big part of my life. If I had one day left to live, I would spend it writing. It is easy to see that I would rather wrestle wild tarantulas than write. Restate your 3 reasons. Make a connection with the reader. So the next time you are faced with a glaring blank paper, remember- there is someone who knows exactly how you feel. If you hate to write, maybe I have been able to help you warm up to some of its wonderful, soul-soothing qualities.
