On a separate piece of paper write your name at the top What comes to mind when you hear the word fantasy? What are some current or modern examples? Now think of what your fantasy world would look like: what sort of people and animals are in this world; what is the food like; are things the same color in this world; do people have special powers? Keep these questions in mind and write about your fantasy world. You have 10 minutes

Defined: Characterization is the way in which authors convey information about their characters. Characterization can be direct, as when an author tells readers what a character is like "George was cunning and greedy." Or indirect, as when an author shows what a character is like by portraying his or her actions, speech, or thoughts "On the crowded subway, George slipped his hand into the man's coat pocket and withdrew the wallet, undetected." Descriptions of a character's appearance, behavior, interests, way of speaking, and other mannerisms are all part of characterization.
