WHERE IS YOUR HEART? Luke 12:13-34

How’s your heart? Annual checkup. Bad news… High blood pressure… Stress levels… Overweight… High cholesterol… Lack of exercise, etc. “It’s your life, it’s your heart.”

HEART 800 TIMES IN THE OT. 150 IN NT(CARDIA in Greek) Definition—The inner man, the seat and center of all life, the soul or mind as the seat of thoughts. The “hidden person of the heart”— 1 Peter 3:4.

PARABLE OF THE RICH FOOL. Luke 12:13-34 What do you set your heart on?

1. HE THOUGHT HE WAS WISE (16-18). 3 FATAL MISTAKES 1. HE THOUGHT HE WAS WISE (16-18).

2. HE THOUGHT HE WOULD HAVE A LONG LIFE (19-20). “You have plenty of good things laid up for many years.” “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you.’”

3. HE THOUGHT HE WOULD BENEFIT (19b-21). “Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.” “This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God” (21).

THESE 3 MISTAKES = PRACTICAL ATHEISM “For the pagan world runs after all such things…” (30).

3 CORRECTIVES: 1. DON’T BE ANXIOUS FOR STUFF (22-30). Beware of worrying. WHERE IS YOUR HEART? Worrying is destructive. Worrying is deceptive. Worrying blinds us. Worrying keeps us from maturing.

WHAT, ME WORRY?????
