TYPES OF MOTIVATION BIOLOGICAL MOTIVATION (AKA Primary Motivation): -refers to innate, physical needs -E.g. hunger, thirst SOCIAL MOTIVATION (AKA Secondary Motivation): -refers to learned, psychological needs -E.g. praise, success

CONT… INTRINSIC MOTIVATION: -motivation to engage in an act for its own sake EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION: -motivation to engage in an act based on the rewards and punishments the act brings DOES INTRINSIC MOTIVATION TRULY EXIST?

ACTIVITY SCENARIO Saleena used to shoplift when she was younger because her family was poor and needed clothing and food. Now Saleena has enough money but she finds herself shoplifting on occasion. She enjoys the craftiness it takes to steal without being caught—the feeling that she can outsmart the store owners. She also gets to wear nice clothing in return for her efforts.

They treat people with unconditional positive regard. Have a problem-centered outlook, rather than a self-centered outlook. They think about how best to solve a problem, not how to make themselves look good. They enjoy life. They are open to positive experiences, including ‘peak experiences’. They have a good sense of humour.
